Junior Achievers: Martial Arts for Kids

Maximizing Each Student's Potential

WHAT TYPE OF SCHOOL IS MARTIAL ARTS FOR LIFE?

What Type of School is This? Martial Arts for Life is a student-centric school. Our focus is on providing a curriculum that provides the most value and benefits to the students. For example, functional and reality-based training is emphasized over the rote learning of pre-arranged patterns or techniques. Providing an age-appropriate curriculum is also stressed over teaching curriculum that was developed a century ago and was originally tailored to men in their athletic prime. We are not geared towards sport martial arts or tournament competition, but rather personal protection and self-improvement.

What is Age-specific Instruction? Based on over 25 years of teaching, plus some very focused research on children and learning, we discovered that children show development milestones based on specific age groups. These age groups, as they pertain to martial arts, are as follows: 4 to 6, 7 to 10, and 11 to 14. This was a big discovery as most martial arts schools still only divide their children into two age groups: 6 and under and 7 and up. By sub-dividing our ages into more specific groups (after they learn the basics), we avoid common challenges such as “roller coaster classes” where almost EVERY drill was “too hard” for the younger students yet “too easy” for the older students.

What Makes MAFL Unique? Martial Arts for Life is truly a family school. We are at the school every day teaching class and serving our students. Our child is on the mats training alongside your child. As fellow parents, we understand the unique challenges parents face when trying to raise a happy, well-adjusted child in this day and age. We are lifelong martial artists who love the art and want to share its many benefits with others. And we routinely seek out and train with some of the very best martial artists in the world so we can provide the most modern and effective methods to our students. Our methodology has been tested and developed over the past 25+ years of teaching professionally.

At Martial Arts for Life, we have engineered our program to address the 5 Greatest Dangers facing our children today:

1. POOR NUTRITION: We teach why good nutrition is important and we encourage our students to eat a healthy diet. We develop our students into martial arts athletes who eat healthfully and respect their bodies.

2. LACK OF EXERCISE: We lead our students through dynamic self-defense workouts that improve physical fitness and conditioning. Each class provides cutting edge principles to develop our students into capable and fit martial arts athletes.

3. NEGATIVE PEER PRESSURE: We build confidence in our students so they can stand up and say “no” to negative peer pressure. We provide training that creates an achievement-oriented culture and a positive peer group for children to participate in.

4. BULLYING: We teach modern, reality-based self-defense skills and how to project physical confidence so our students don’t have to fear bullies. Over the past 25+ years of teaching martial arts, we have developed a proven system that teaches confidence and develops a high self-concept for youngsters.

5. LACK OF MOTIVATION: We inspire our students to become motivated and enthusiastic in school. We have a proprietary and well-structured school-success program that tracks and rewards academic progress. We also share best practices for students as part of our “Success Course for A+ Grades.”

What Our Students Say...

"Master and Mrs. B. run a great program for both youth and adults alike. My son loves his bi-weekly karate class, and the adult kickboxing class is the only fitness class I am willing to leave the house for. Unlike other places--particularly chains--the owners go out of their way to see you and your child grow in the practice of martial arts."

"Our experience with Martial Arts for Life has been amazing! Since joining, my son has developed confidence, determination, and self-esteem in ways that have amazed us. He’s not only grown in his martial arts skills, but he genuinely looks forward to every class. What sets this school apart is Master B’s incredible coaching and mentoring. He takes the time to really understand each child personally, building a connection that motivates and inspires. His ability to bring out the best in his students is a testament to his dedication and passion for teaching.

It’s been a fantastic journey for our son!

"MAFL has been and continues to be, an invaluable growing-up experience for our children! Not only have they learned the skills in karate but the importance of kindness, sharing, friendship, teamwork, and wholesome values. It is amazing to see our children level-up in their karate skills and to see how excited they get when they learn new things and how they are always happy to see their classmates and teachers. Master and Mrs B. are great teachers in and out of the class - and their commitment to supporting the community is outstanding!"

"We've been trying to find a sport for our son Max for some time now and had been struggling to find something he loved. We decided to try Martial Arts for Life when we moved to the area. Max was nervous and would not go in on his first day. Everyone at MAFL made him feel super comfortable and got him to come into the class when I couldn't do it! He's been doing the program for a month and loves it- we finally found his place! Huge thank you for the patience and kindness of Mrs. and Master Brugger. Would highly recommend MAFL."

My daughter always starts off tired before class due to a long school, but by the end she comes out smiling and full of energy. The instructors do an amazing job keeping the kids engaged, motivated, and having fun while still teaching discipline and technique. It’s been so rewarding to see her confidence grow each week. Highly recommend this class to any parent looking for a positive and encouraging activity for their child!”

"We’re so happy to be part of the MAFL family! We couldn’t be more pleased with their classes and training programs. Master and Mrs. B are incredibly attentive and accommodating to each student’s needs.
My daughter began lessons at age 13 as a complete beginner. Since most students in her class were younger, Master and Mrs. B went out of their way to make her feel comfortable...Thanks to their support, she fell in love with martial arts and is now continuing her training at a more advanced level. It is never too late to start if your kids are interested in martial arts."
