REAL Martial Arts & Fitness Training!
Martial Arts for Life offers STX Kickboxing (Savate / Thai Cross Training), a kickboxing curriculum founded by Sensei Erik Paulson, former light heavyweight kickboxing champion. STX Kickboxing is a hybrid striking system which focuses on explosive techniques from Boxing, Jeet Kune Do, Kickboxing, Savate, Muay Thai (Thai & Dutch methods). In STX Kickboxing, students will learn a blend of elbow, punches and knees from each art. These skills are easily translated in MMA, kickboxing, and self-defense situations. From glove drills to focus mitts, to Thai pads, students will have a wide variety of striking options.
In addition to training on martial arts and kickboxing techniques, students will also use medicine balls, resistance bands, free-standing heavy bags and more to help realize their full fitness potential.

Our Kickboxing program was developed with adults in mind. After teaching traditional Martial Arts for many years, our instructors saw that the system they had learned and so many like them still teach, just wasn't very good for adults.
There was too much contact, too much memorization, too much potential for injury and not enough emphasis on fitness and realistic self-defense.
Our Kickboxing system is the answer to many of the problems intrinsic in Traditional Systems. Over the past decade, it has become one of the most successful and popular Martial Arts Systems in the World!
THE FOUR ELEMENTS OF OUR PROGRAM
FITNESS: The primary benefit and focus of each Kickboxing class is Fitness. The classes are designed to help each student lose weight, build muscle and transform your body. Additionally, each class is designed to challenge each student's cardiovascular fitness and raise your level of conditioning.
SAFETY: The next element of our program is Safety. Each Kickboxing Class is designed to protect the student's knees, ankles, back & neck. There is no bouncing, jumping, spinning or contact with other students in our basic Kickboxing course. We understand that our students have jobs, families and responsibilities. We protect our students from injury by creating a curriculum that considers the adult student's needs. "It isn't so much what we've put into our Kickboxing program that makes it so special... It's what we took out."
EDUCATION: The next element of Kickboxing at Martial Arts for Life is Education. Each class is designed to challenge the student intellectually. We realize that most people join our program for health & fitness - not to become a champion fighters. However, by teaching correct technique, the student gets a safer, better workout. Often, the most dangerous part of any fitness program is an unqualified instructor who does not know how to safely conduct a class. Additionally, by teaching the students how to do their punches, kicks, knees & footwork correctly, we keep the program more interesting. Adding an educational element to our classes keeps our students focused and challenged each and every class!
FUN: The last and perhaps the most important element of our program is Fun! There are lots of ways to get in shape. However, the one you will stick with and benefit from the most is the one you actually enjoy. We are experts at disguising repetition so the material is familiar and not boring. Plus, we create a "team oriented" classroom. There is no negativity, sarcasm or indifference. Perhaps most importantly, we teach in a non-intimidating environment! Our students are are focused on a quest not only to be their best, but to also help others achieve their goals.

What Will I Be Learning?
Our unique classes incorporate techniques & training methods from the following disciplines:
American Kickboxing: A combination of powerful punching and kicking techniques proven to provide a kick-butt, sweat pouring, bag slamming, aggression releasing workout for the RAGING kick boxer deep inside us all!
Muay Thai Kickboxing: Referred to as the "Science of Eight Limbs," Muay Thai has existed for centuries as a fighting art and uses knees and elbow strikes in addition to punches and kicks. The conditioning routines of Thai boxing are some of the most effective known in all of Martial Arts.
Savate: Savate is known for being highly mobile and constantly moving which makes you harder to hit and allows you to attack at angles. The training also capitalizes on Savate's many fakes and setups so that the opponent is constantly guessing as to which attack is real and what is just a misleading fake.
Boxing: Often reffered to as "Western Boxing." Boxers are some of the best conditioned athletes in the entire world. Boxing uses techniques such as the jab, cross, hook, uppercut, bob, weave & specialized footwork. The boxing portion of our class is performed on heavy bags and focus mitts for a workout like no other!
Our instructors are the most patient, motivating, and knowledgeable people you can find anywhere in the Martial Arts!
BUT, BEWARE BEWARE!
Before we continue I want to seriously warn you. There is one thing that is a part of today's "Mixed Martial Arts" culture that I cannot stand. Disrespect. I do not like the trash talking, the crude language, or the disrespectful attitudes of many mixed martial artists featured on television. As a lifetime Martial Artist it upsets me to think that this could become what society at large thinks a "martial artist" is.
It will not be tolerated in this Academy.
We train in a helpful, positive, friendly environment. Even though we are training in one of the most practical and effective striking arts ever created, we still embrace the customs and behaviors of traditional Martial Arts. In fact, Martial Artists have been using strategies of respect, discipline, focus, self-control, and courage for centuries. I would go so far as to say that learning these values is actually the point of training in Martial Arts. The kicking and punching is just a vehicle to take you to greater self-awareness.

Student Safety – A common misconception about Martial Arts and Kickboxing training is that to learn effective techniques, you have to get into wild and crazy sparring matches. FALSE. At Martial Arts for Life, most of our students have families and jobs and can't afford to leave the gym with black eyes! The sparring that is done at Martial Arts for Life is done with utmost control and only if you qualify for and choose to partcipate in that aspect of training. The idea is to train smart and have fun. Safety is our number one concern and we want everyone to experience all the benefits of our program.
